Taking care of your Feline Maison products ensures they perform at their best, and last as long as possible. This guide covers everything you need to know to maintain, clean, and get the most out of your purchase.
Why Product Care Matters
Premium products deserve premium care.
At Feline Maison, every item in our collection is built to last, but like all quality products, regular maintenance ensures optimal performance, hygiene, and longevity. Proper care also keeps your cat's environment clean, safe, and comfortable every single day.
Self-Cleaning Litter Boxes
Daily Care
- Empty the waste drawer or collection tray daily or as indicated by your unit's sensor
- Check that the rotation mechanism moves freely and is not obstructed
- Ensure the litter level is within the recommended fill line, overfilling can affect the cleaning cycle
- Monitor your cat's usage patterns via the app (if applicable) to detect any early health changes
Weekly Care
- Wipe down the exterior with a damp, lint-free cloth, avoid abrasive materials
- Clean the waste drawer or tray with mild soap and warm water, rinse thoroughly and dry completely before reinserting
- Check and clean the sensors with a dry cotton swab to ensure accurate detection
- Inspect the globe or drum for any residue build-up and wipe clean
Monthly Deep Clean
- Fully disassemble the unit following the manufacturer's instructions
- Wash all removable components with mild, unscented soap and warm water
- Allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembly, never use a heat source to speed up drying
- Replace litter completely, do not top up old litter indefinitely
- Check all electrical connections and cables for wear or damage
Recommended Litter
- Use clumping litter specifically recommended for automatic litter boxes
- Avoid silica gel, crystal, or non-clumping litter unless explicitly stated as compatible in your product manual
- Minimum litter depth as indicated in your product manual, typically 3-5cm
Important Safety Notes
- Never submerge the motor unit or electrical components in water
- Always unplug the unit before cleaning or performing maintenance
- Keep the power cable away from moisture at all times
- Do not use bleach, ammonia, or harsh chemical cleaners, these can damage the unit and are harmful to cats
- If the unit emits unusual noises or odours, stop use and contact us at support@felinemaison.com
Automatic Water Fountains
Daily Care
- Check water level and top up with fresh water daily
- Rinse the fountain bowl or basin with clean water
- Observe the water flow, reduced flow may indicate a filter that needs replacing
Weekly Care
- Fully disassemble the fountain
- Wash all non-electrical components with mild soap and warm water
- Clean the pump impeller with a small brush to remove debris and mineral build-up
- Rinse all components thoroughly and dry before reassembly
- Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth
Filter Replacement
- Replace the carbon filter every 2-4 weeks depending on usage and water hardness
- Replace the foam or sponge filter every 4-8 weeks
- Always use compatible replacement filters, using incorrect filters may affect water quality and void your guarantee
Important Safety Notes
- Never operate the fountain without water, this will damage the pump
- Always unplug before cleaning or disassembling
- Do not use dishwashers unless the product manual explicitly states components are dishwasher-safe
- Use filtered or still water where possible, hard water accelerates mineral build-up
- Do not use bleach or chemical descalers, use white vinegar diluted in water for mineral deposits, rinse thoroughly
Automatic Feeders
Daily Care
- Check food levels and refill as needed
- Verify scheduled feeding times are programmed correctly
- Check the dispensing mechanism is operating smoothly
Weekly Care
- Remove the food container and wash with mild soap and warm water
- Wipe down the exterior with a damp cloth
- Clean the dispensing chute with a dry brush to remove food residue
- Check the battery level (if battery-operated) and replace if low
Monthly Deep Clean
- Fully disassemble all removable components
- Wash thoroughly with mild soap and warm water, rinse completely
- Allow all parts to air dry fully before reassembly
- Wipe down sensors and buttons with a dry cloth
Food Recommendations
- Use dry kibble of the size recommended in your product manual
- Avoid wet food, semi-moist food, or oversized kibble, these can clog the dispensing mechanism
- Store food in an airtight container to maintain freshness and prevent moisture from affecting the feeder
Important Safety Notes
- Always unplug before cleaning
- Do not overfill the food container, this can jam the dispensing mechanism
- Check regularly that food has not become damp or mouldy inside the unit
- Keep the feeder on a flat, stable surface at all times
